Self-care for family members and caregivers navigating the victories and
challenges of caring for someone living with special needs.

Taking Care of Ourselves Helps

Our Loved Ones

Family members of a person with a disability of any kind can experience stress, emotional and physical exhaustion, anxiety, self-doubt, and depression; as well as, feeling as though they have nowhere to turn. This type of daily stress can be tremendous and constant. This support group offers anyone ongoing compassionate support on issues that arise in relation to the daily challenges of caring and advocating for their loved one. It is an intimate place to talk confidentially where you will receive authentic and empathetic understanding. A place where caregivers can give voice to stressful experiences, strong feelings and personal frustration in the company of others who can identify.

Maybe you have been feeling hopeless and alone in this journey. Group therapy can offer you a sense of community in your life. Group therapy’s effectiveness lies in its ability to help you find connections with other people and their experiences. Members can meet others and discover strengths, through their common experience with encouragement for each other. These therapist-guided sessions will help you learn more about yourself and how to improve the way you feel, while feeling support from others who understand your experience.

If this resonates with you – you may be a great fit for group services. Please reach out to me today for an assessment for group therapy or to schedule your first appointment.

These are small groups facilitated by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker trained to assist group members with their processing.

Let’s Work Together

I am a therapist who works with families affected by disability issues. I am also a parent of a family member with disabilities. Our journeys are not the same, but I understand the important issues facing parents daily; from the initial uncertainty and worry to the shock or confusion that accompanies receiving a diagnosis, to the stress of managing and negotiating the community, from the individual needs of each of your family members, to maintaining a healthy satisfying life for yourself.

If you have a loved one with disabilities, counseling can make a tremendous difference in how you navigate your journey for you and your entire family. Parents/caregivers need and deserve support in not only helping their children and their family, but also in helping themselves to identify and cope with their own stressors.

This is a journey. It’s a process that takes time, patience, and perseverance. This doesn’t happen overnight. Helping yourself will help your loved ones.

Group therapy has the power to transform lives by providing a supportive community where individuals can gain insight, develop new skills, and find the strength and resilience to overcome challenges and thrive.
